The Atlas Building: Adaptive-Reuse and Historic Preservation

Transform city into cultural landscape — Restore, protect and celebrate our greatest treasures.

An award-winning project at the forefront of adaptive reuse and residential conversion in Charleston’s Historic District. Forty-five thousand square feet of former office space was transformed into luxury loft-style apartments.

The building’s robust steel-and-concrete frame, large operable windows, and high ceilings were restored and put back to work—bringing light, volume, and presence back to a structure in the City’s historic core.

The result is housing that honors original construction while meeting contemporary living: functional, beautiful, and durable architecture that helped set the tone for residential reuse downtown.
