Shawnee Park Master Plan & Aquatic Center: Planning, Recreational, Civic, Municipal

Placemaking for recreation, multi-sports, entertainment events and community gathering spaces.

An underutilized riverfront 18-hole public golf course is reimagined as an interactive destination for sport, gathering, and competition.

The vision brings multi-sport tournaments and related events, family and corporate programming, and international aquatics competition onto one riverfront campus—designed as a year-round hub rather than a single-use course. Public, private, and commercial partners come together in a multipurpose events center that serves the full sports and recreation community.

The result is a high-performance, site-responsive place: flexible courts and fields, event-ready indoor and outdoor rooms, and aquatic venues calibrated for both everyday play and world-class meets. Form, proportion, and riverfront context work together so the facility feels welcoming to residents while performing for visitors, sponsors, and operators.

Sakoian International approaches this kind of transformation as a collaborative design workshop—holistic, transparent, and built to turn an overlooked landscape into architecture that attracts people, events, and lasting economic energy.
