The SW 1st Street Bridge is an award-winning operable crossing with an integrated control tower—a working piece of civic infrastructure and a vital link between Little Havana, the historic district, and metropolitan downtown.

This replacement project does more than span the water. It connects neighborhoods, aligns with Miami’s greenway of parks and pathways, and treats the bridge as a public room in the city rather than a utility alone. The design language draws on modern, Art Deco, and local historic vernacular so structure, tower, and approaches read as one cohesive place.

Form, proportion, and site context are held in balance: clear movement for vehicles and pedestrians, a confident profile on the river, and details that belong to Miami. The result is infrastructure that performs—functional, beautiful, and built to serve the districts it joins for generations.
